You’re in the market for a new computer, but how do you know whether to choose a desktop, laptop, or tablet? It boils down to asking yourself one simple question:
How am I going to use this new computer?
With a desktop, you get more power and features that just can’t fit into a laptop-sized package. You also tend get more for your money with a desktop. If space is not an issue and you don’t need to lug your PC around with you, then a desktop is your best choice.
If you want the freedom to sit outside, go down to the local coffee shop, or use it for a business trip, you need a laptop. Newer models are equally as good as most desktop PCs with many featuring widescreen LED panels for High Definition DVD viewing. However, all this comes with a price. Laptops will always carry a heftier price tag, with the higher spec models being significantly more expensive than their desktop counterparts.
In the last couple of years a new category of devices have entered the market. Tablet PCs (iPad, anyone?). These new devices are becoming increasingly more powerful and sophisticated and share some of the “portable” benefits of a laptop.
Still not sure what to get? Click on the links below for an in-depth breakdown of what to look for when choosing a desktop, laptop or tablet PC. Also, ComputerGeeks2Go has selected 3 systems perfect for you and you’ll find them located in the boxes on this page. Thanks for sharing informative post. This clearly points out the advantages of desktops, laptops and tablets. I would prefer tablets from all the three. They are the newest technology and portable.
Jon Bristow says:
Thanks, Alan! I’m a fan of the tablet myself. I’ve gotten my wife hooked on them too, though she still prefers a “real” keyboard over the virtual ones. Thanks for stopping by!

Absolutely positively a ltpoap. You need a portable one you can take to class and take notes, but one with enough RAM to be able to look at multiple websites and write a paper simultaneously.A tablet might be able to take notes, but you will not get any word processing done, and word processing will be a part of every college class.
Jon says:
Hi Mariana!
Thank you for your comments. I use my tablet all the time, but my wife, like you, prefers to do most of her word processing on her laptop. Good luck with your classes!

Hi Michelle! Thank you for the compliment. We’re using a custom “child theme” on a WordPress platform for our blog. We created the child theme ourselves so it matched our website. Feel free to contact us if you have any more questions! sales@computergeeks2go.com

Where is the “box on this page” that is a link to a “six core desktop” that computergeeks2go says is perfect for me?
I see no box …
Jon Bristow says:
Hi Wayne, We have updated our page slightly and removed the link to the six core desktop. We have tested these machines and think all users still should look for Intel core i7 processors if they are looking for a powerful machine. We have provided a link to a great value core i7 machine for you to look at.

My wife and I are thinking about getting a new computer for our house, but weren’t sure what to choose. It’s interesting that you say to consider how you are going to use this new computer. Since my wife likes to move around while on the computer, it might be nice to get a laptop.

I’ve been looking for a good laptop repair service in my area, but I’m not sure if buying a computer would be better. I’m glad that you talked about a laptop being able to offer the freedom to be anywhere, but it coming with a price I know that I want a laptop, and I’ve had a good one, so I’ll need to see if a repair service thinks that its worth saving or if I should just get a new one! Thanks for the article!
